NEWS TREATMENT

Several treatments have broken into routine clinical practice in the last 10 years have changed the prognosis of stroke.

Intravenous thrombolysis is one of the first treatments in the acute phase of stroke that radically changed the way of managing acute ischemic stroke. It improved by more than 30% the functional prognosis of patients who are administered in several clinical trials. This made it necessary to develop strategies to provide these treatments for different patients.

New treatments like endovascular thrombectomy have recently shown their effectiveness when applied to specific groups of patients with clinically significant morbidity involvement but without damage established in the image.

In turn known treatments such as antiplatelet agents and commonly used in stroke patients, and combinations that usually did not provide benefit over monotherapy have been reviewed in a clinical trial.

One treatment that’s going to change the primary and secondary prevention of strokes are the NACO (new oral anticoagulants) or so-called ADD (anticoagulants of direct action). Its effectiveness in the prevention of cardioembolic stroke in atrial fibrillation and safety for minor bleeding complication makes them worthy of being one of the innovations in cardiovascular treatment.
